Goodwill Used Book Store: Arcadia

I'm always on the lookout for good quality used books for my kids and since this place is near my chiropractor's office I often stop at the Goodwill Bookstore and Donation Center in Arcadia a few times a year.

The bookstore itself isn't very large, a few hundred square feet maybe, but I always come out with an armload full of books for my kids.

Most children's books are $1.99, but there is often a half-price or buy-one-get-one free special. Call to ask about any current or upcoming sales.

Yard Sale Weekend: Wrightwood, 5/24-5/26

Wrightwood Yard Sale Weekend
Friday, May 23 - Sunday, May 25, 2014

Click the map for directions to Wrightwood, Ca. Estimated time from 90640, 1 hour, 10 minutes.

Every Memorial Day weekend the population of Wrightwood, California increases ten-fold as the city hosts it's annual Yard Sale weekend.

My good friend, Michele, lives in Wrightwood and here is what she has to say about the weekend,
"The yard sales are throughout the town, some community organizations set up along Highway 2. A lot of people start their yard sales on Friday and leave them up through Sunday, then there are a lot of people that just have Saturday sales. Saturday is probably the best day to go.

There are bathrooms on Hwy 2 at the gas station and there is a public bathroom between the banks and near the community center. Sometimes the Hardware Store has port-a -potties set up.
There are no sidewalks, so you'll have to walk on the road. The east-west streets are pretty flat for the most part, you can park at the end of a block then walk up and down to return to the car. The north-south streets are usually hilly, you could park the car at the top and move it down after a few houses."

I went to Wrightwood for last year's yard sale weekend. I was out for six hours and covered most of the town. I had a great time and hope other yard sale shoppers will find that Wrightwood is worth the trip!

Read my yard sale shopping tips and find information about
Montebello's Yard Sale weekend coming up June 6-8, 2014.

Disneyland Ticket prices have increased! Get tickets today at yesterday's prices!

I originally wrote this post in June 2013. This morning the world woke up to find another Disney Resort price increase!

Last year there was a 3 week period between the time the Disney Resort raised price of tickets and the time the updated cards with the new price were stocked at grocery stores.

If you plan to go to Disney later this year, and you have the money available, buy your tickets & passes at the Grocery Store or Disney Store now and save!
__________________________________________________________________

Disneyland Resort has raised admission prices once again. The cost of one or two day tickets have gone up $4-12 a piece. All annual passports increased by $30. The cost of a one day, one park ticket is now $92 for ages 10 and up, $86 for ages 3-9, and children 2 and under are free. See all the new prices here.

I know what you are thinking. Yikes! I know, right? Okay, here is how you can get around paying the full price for Disney tickets and it's totally legitimate.

Disneyland Resort tickets and annual passports available at Ralphs, Monterey Park, 6/1/2013.
These tickets & passports must be redeemed by 12/31/2013.

You can still purchase tickets and passports at the old price if you visit the gift card section at  grocery stores that sell Disney tickets and annual passports.

I contacted a Disneyland Resort ticket representative earlier in the month and she said that although the prices increase at the park they do not ask the grocery stores to replace their current stock. They are available while supplies last and can be redeemed up until the expiration date on the card, usually until the end of the calendar year. The ticket holder will not have to pay the difference in price.

UPDATE 12/24/13: We redeemed finally redeemed our annual passes that we bought way back in June, at the ticket booth the Cast Member couldn't figure out how to add the 2013 updated parking fee to our pass, and after a few minutes of trying she gave us the old parking pass price, saving us $30! She said, "I can't figure it out, Merry Christmas!"

If you are planning on visiting Disneyland this year act fast, buy your tickets at the old price from the gift card section of Ralphs, Albertsons, or another grocery store that carries the cards, and save up to $30. Check out the Disney Store gift card section too! They still sold the passes & tickets to Disney at the old prices for a few weeks until the new updated price cards came in.

2012 OLD PRICES AVAILABLE IN THE GIFT CARD SECTION OF STORES

Indoor Yard Sale: Grace Baptist Church, Montebello, Saturday, 5/3

Grace Baptist Church is holding an indoor yard sale Saturday, 5/3, from 7am-3pm in their main hall at 482 Garfield Avenue in Montebello.

I stopped by on Friday and they are definitely selling at realistic yard sale prices. I bought a fewclothes and all were 75¢ or less. Be prepared to spend some time sorting through piles for clothes, it's worth scheduling stop on this beautiful Saturday.
