Lego: Art of the Brick, Forest Lawn Museum

I took the kids to Forest Lawn in Glendale today to see the new exhibit, The Art of the Brick. This is a must see for any Lego fan and definitely worth the drive.

My kids love anything Lego and this exhibit was like none we had ever seen before. There were about 30 pieces on display. Our favorite was a pop-up story book complete with castle and moat.

The Forest Lawn Museum is open Tuesday-Sunday, 10am-5pm, parking and admission is free. There are two other exhibit halls and a gift shop in the museum. Be sure to drive around Forest Lawn's roads on your way out, there are many sculptures including a replica of Michelangelo's Statue of David on display throughout the grounds.

Monsters University Event: Disney Store, 6/15, 6/22, 6/29

To celebrate the release of Disney's latest movie, Monsters University, all Disney Stores are hosting a "School of Scaring" event. I took my kids to this event last weekend and they came home with a MU Student ID and pennant. Be forewarned, the event asks the kids to growl and roar. My daughter took it a little far and came home with a sore throat.

These large in-store events run about 15-30 minutes. I've attended a few of the events with my children and they usually include a free keepsake such as a small craft, sticker, coloring page, or certificate. At the Montebello location and all redesigned stores the events are held in the gazebo.

Mega Parking Lot Pet Adoption Event: Long Beach, 6/22-6/23

We just adopted a dog from the L.A. County Animal Shelter in Downey. You can expect to pay about $100 to adopt an animal through a shelter or rescue organization, this event included.

 There will be over 100 animals up for adoption at this Mega Parking Lot Adoption Event. For more information visit the organizer's Facebook page here.

If you adopt a dog at this event, you can get coupons to cover the first month's dog food for free by visiting Pedigree's Adopt-a-Dog page. Print out the form, pop it in the mail, and wait for the coupons to arrive.

Lego Superman Mini-Model Build: Lego Stores, 6/19

Visit any Lego Store on Wednesday, June 19 at 5pm and children under 14 can build a free mini-Lego Superman! The event is limited to 150 models per store, I suggest arriving at minimum an hour early to grab a spot. There are Lego stores at the Glendale Galleria, Downtown Disney, and the Ontario Mills Mall.

Family Walk to Prevent Underage Drinking: Sunday, 6/23

Getting your family to walk for a cause is a great way to bond. This1.5 mile walk is an effort to help prevent underage drinking. The walk is funded by various agencies including the Los Angeles County Department of Public Health. Free Lego Police Car Father's Day Event: Toys R Us, Saturday, 6/15

Take your family to any Toys R Us retail location on Saturday, June 15 from Noon-2pm for a free Father's Day Lego Event. Participants can build a free Lego City Police Car to take home.

Families in our community can partake of a rare opportunity to be part of a Guinness World Record by participating in the World's Largest Swim Lesson. People in pools around the world will simultaneously participate in  a swim lesson for 30 minutes.

Palm Park Pool in Whittier is hosting one of the free swimming lessons. Participants of any age are welcome, but all participants need to be able to climb out of the pool using a ladder on their own, so the recommended age is three years and older. PTSD Walk/Bike Ride: Santa Fe Dam, Irwindale, Saturday, 6/15

This event is hosted in part by The Hook Up Resource Center in Montebello. The event will take place at Santa Fe Dam in Irwindale at the Ash Tree area of the park. Parking is $10.

The event is to raise money for a PTSD program for children and spouses of veterans. The event will feature music, food, vendors, artwork, massages and a walk or bike ride along Santa Fe Dam's trails.  Montebello's Mayor, Christina Cortez will be speaking, and a Congresswoman will also be in attendance.  For more information call 323-516-6382.

 This is a sample of the Tupperware products I have in my home, not counting the ones currently in use as tub toys, storing leftovers, organizing odds and ends around the house, and the large bowls I bring out for parties.

Family Summer Camp: Bass Pro Shops, 6/8-7/14

Bass Pro Shops is hosting free family activities with a summer camp theme four days a week from Noon-5pm at it's Rancho Cucamonga location.

Families can try their hand at the shooting arcade, participate in a casting challenge, create craft projects, fish in the catch & release pond and more. Lemonade Stand Event: Toys R Us Store, 6/22

Visit any Toys R Us store on Saturday, June 22 from Noon-3pm to take part in an Alex's Lemonade Stand event. Alex's Lemonade Stand is an organization that encourages kids and families to host a lemonade stand and donate the proceeds to cancer research.
