Halloween Maze 2014: Montebello Performing Arts Center

Montebello Performing Arts Center is once again hosting a Halloween Maze for the public on Saturday, October 18. The not-so-scary maze, crafts, and costume contest for kids is from 5pm-7pm, and teens & adults can experience the horrifying maze from 8pm-10pm. Costs to enter the maze ranges from $5-10.

Hispanic Heritage Month Celebrations: Shops at Montebello




In honor of National Hispanic Heritage Month, The Shops at Montebello is hosting special events throughout the month in recognition of the histories, cultures and contributions of American citizens whose ancestors came from Spain, Mexico, the Caribbean and Central and South America.



EVENTS

  • Thursday, September 25, from 4 p.m. to 5 p.m. in Center Court - LA Dodger Miguel Rojas appearance featuring meet and greet and photo opportunities. There will be no autographs during this event.
  • Saturday, September 27 from 3:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. in Center Court - AMP Radio 97.1 on-site with a free ticket giveaway, entertainment and more.
  • Saturday, October 4, from noon to 1:00 p.m. in Center Court - Mariachi Kids Performance.
  • Saturday, October 11, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. - Super Estrella 107.1 on-site in Center Court featuring radio personality, music and giveaways.
  • All Month: Biographies of prominent Hispanic-American figures like astronaut Ellen Ochoa, U.S. Cabinet Secretary Hilda Solis, Activist Cesar Chavez, Actress Rita Moreno, and many more will be placed throughout the center.

Fiestas Patiras Festival: Olvera Street

Celebrate Mexican Independence Day in downtown L.A. at Olvera Street!


Live performances will start at Noon and run through 10pm on Saturday, and 9pm on Sunday.  Dora and the explorer girls are set to make 6 on-stage apperances throughout the two-day festival.

The event will begin with a march of several organizations at Whittier Blvd and 10th Street and proceed west to the Veteran's Monument at City Park, 1300 W. Whittier Blvd, Montebello. The public is welcome to join the march.

The parade begins at 10:30am at Cesar Chavez Blvd at Mednik in East Los Angeles and travels west on Cesar Chavez to Gage. A festival will be held from Noon-6pm at Cesar Chavez & 1st Street.

The Nick Jr. television show, Julius Jr., is making it's way to the Shops at Montebello for an experience that includes Julius Jr. themed activities!

Tanaka Farms: Pumpkin Patch, Irvine

Tanaka Farms is a 30 acre organic farm in Irvine. The farm offers pick-your-own-veggies tours and has a well stocked fresh organic produce stand.

This weekend the pumpkins are ripe for picking and Tanaka farms is officially opening the Pumpkin Patch! Pumpkin and fall themed activities are available weekends and include a petting zoo, U-pick Pumpkin Patch, U-Pick Vegetables, a pumpkin cannon, fresh roasted vegetables, games, and wagon rides.
 
Bring your camera as there are lots of great fall-themed photo opportunities and wear shoes that you don't mind getting dirty! I've been to Tanaka Farms a few times and my family always has fun, it's definitely worth the drive.



Pumpkin Festival/Insect Fair: Cal Poly Pomona



The festival features a corn maze, petting zoo, horse rides, live entertainment, a pumpkin-themed movie, and games & activities for kids.  Families may wander the pumpkin patch and chose their own pumpkins. Many families bring wagons or strollers and load up as the prices are usually cheaper than the grocery store.

The Pumpkin Festival and parking is free, but many activities have a cost. Pumpkins are $5 from the patch.

An Insect Fair with half a million live insects will be held the same weekend from 9-5pm. Admission is the Insect Fair is $5 for adults, $4 for children ages 3-12/senors/military/students, & children under 2 are free.
