Ice Cream Summer Specials

Ice cream and summer go hand-in-hand. Do not let a summer pass by without treating your kids to ice cream. Here are the summer specials for Tastee-Freez at Weinerschnitzel, Baskin-Robbins, Snowopolis, and McDonalds.

Weinerschnitzel
My rule about dipped cones is, "You have to be able to control the drips on your ice cream cone before you can order a dipped cone." My son says the caramel dip is delicious!

Baskin-Robbins
Tuesday specials at each location varies. Usually the offer is $1 off the price of single scoop cones, bringing the price down to under two dollars a cone.

Snowopolis
There can be long lines on especially hot days, but when the server hands you a huge shaved ice for only $1, you immediately forget about the wait.

McDonald's
During the hours of 2pm - 5pm shakes, smoothies, iced coffee, & frappes are buy-on-get-one free! I took my kids for an afterschool treat; small shakes were $1.99, at BOGO, it comes out to $1 each! Available every day at participating restaurants.

Diaper Derby: Shops at Montebello, 6/28

The Shops at Montebello invites the area’s cutest babies to crawl their way to victory at its first-annual Diaper Derby on Saturday, June 28, from noon to 1:30 p.m. in Center Court.

The event is a series of crawling races on a soft, sanitized surface, and is open to all babies less than 12 months old who are not yet walking. Proud family members and friends are invited to cheer on the babies in each of the three heats of six babies each. The top crawler from each of the three races will compete for prizes in the final race. The fastest crawler will receive a 1st place prize of a $100 gift card to Children’s Place, the 2nd place racer will win a $75 gift card to Gymboree and 3rd place will earn a $50 gift card to Baby GAP.

Parents will try to motivate their children at the finish line, using various attempts to get their child across the line first. This commonly includes the playing of instruments, holding a child's favorite toy or teddy bear, and generally encouraging them along the way.
Mundo FOX Channel 22 entertainment reporter Melissa Martinez Romero is slated to emcee all the action.

“The Diaper Derby is a fun way for local moms, dad and caretakers to spend an afternoon coming together as a family at The Shops at Montebello,” said Marida Petitjean, director of marketing and business development at The Shops at Montebello. “As a hub for the community, we’re thrilled to be able to offer a wide variety of events, amenities and lifestyle experiences that meet our shoppers needs and interests.”
Registration and participation in the event is free. To register, families can visit The Shops at Montebello’s Guest Services booth, located on the lower level near Macy's Home. A maximum of 18 participants will be registered for the event, and all registered participants will receive a special gift from The Shops at Montebello on the day of the event, during the time of check in.
Other enjoyable activities will include retailer stations, special offers, giveaways, prizes, and lots of fun for the whole family.
For more information, visit The Shops at Montebello on Facebook, Twitter or Instagram at www.facebook.com/shopsatmontebello, www.twitter.com/shopsmontebello or www.instagram.com/shopsmontebello.

Kidgits Safe Summer Event: Shops at Montebello, Saturday, 6/21

Kidgits Safe & Fit Summer Event
Saturday, June 21
Noon - 1:30pm
Shops at Montebello

The event will teach kids about tips for neighborhood safety, summer safety and stranger awareness, with easy tips including:
  • Stay out of the street. Cars make the street a dangerous place to play.
  • Tell your parents where you are going and when you'll be back. Know your home phone number and address.
  • Ask your parents first. If someone invites you to go somewhere, offers you a gift or just wants to talk, say you need to ask your parents for permission first.
12:15 p.m. to 12:30 p.m.: Water Safety Presentation
12:30 - 1:15: Latin Dance and Kids Yoga session

Bearemy from Build-A-Bear Workshop will mix and mingle with attendees. A balloon artist and summer arts and crafts will be available to all families in attendance. Kidgits members will be treated to a face painter and a special Kidgits beach ball, while supplies last.

Father's Day Gift Ideas, by Mr. MontebelloMom

Written by Guest Blogger, Mr. Montebello Mom.

On this upcoming Father’s Day I invite you to lay off the ties, boxer shorts, and polo shirts, and instead look into some of these cool gifts that won’t necessarily break the bank.
This 10 in 1 screwdriver set includes a free bottle opener for under $15 at Home Depot.  Leave it in a kitchen drawer and you will have quick access to a variety of tools for many home improvement needs.

I am a big fan of pocket knives, and have found my new favorite in this Leatherman C33X unit which features a 2.5” blade and a carabineer clip that doubles as a bottle opener, all for under $20 at REI or Sports Chalet.

One of my favorite tools is this hammer that I received as a Father’s Day gift last year.  Look at how awesome looking it is!  If Chuck Norris had an official hammer, this would definitely be it!  Under $30 at Lowe’s.

Home Depot also has some tool sets for sale, like this 200 piece Husky mechanics tool set for under $100.  If you are looking for something a bit more affordable, this 65 piece Husky mechanics tool set will cover most of the basics for under $30 at the Home Depot.

This 18V Lithium Ion powered drill& impact driver kit available for under $100 at Home Depot.  What’s that you say?  Dad already has a cordless drill?  Is it powered by a LITHIUM ION battery?  ‘Cause that’s what all the cool dads are doing now, you do want your dad to be cool right?  And look at that awesome neon green color!

We here at MontebelloMom.com wish all dads out there a happy and safe Father’s Day.

________________________________

The L.A. County Library also provides free online tutoring!

Can't make it to the library? Free online tutoring is available for kindergarten - 12th grade, college students, and adults.

Assistance in math, science, English, and social studies, essay review, AP courses, SAT prep, GED preparation, citizenship preparation, career services, resume review, interview practice, and job search is available.

Tutors bilingual in Spanish & Vietnamese can be requested.

Online tutoring services are available from 3pm-10pm. All you need is a computer linked to the internet & a library card number for access.

I tried the online tutoring pretending I was a 2nd grader with a math problem, and again as an adult seeking interview help. It was easy to navigate, but little kids would probably have trouble typing in their questions & responses. It would probably be best if parents of elementary students typed in the questions & respond for their children.
