Bikes, wagons, strollers, and wheelchairs are welcome. Kids, parents, and teens are encouraged to ride. Kids are required to wear helmets.

Contests for kids 12 and under include: best decorated bicycle, best costume, and best patriotic speech.

I visited Grand Park for the first time two years ago and was pleasantly surprised to find lush spacious lawns, shops, a huge walk-in water fountain for kids to splash to their hearts content, and a new playground has been added since my last visit.

This Fourth of July Grand Park will feature a celebration with live entertainment and fireworks.

Prepared food picnics are encouraged in the park. Beverages are not allowed, but empty bottles for water are allowed. Grilling and cooking prohibited. All bags will be checked. Pets on leashes are welcome. There are strict rules for what is allowed, please refer to the Grand Park website for more information.

The parade travels on north on Stimson Avenue, from Colima Road to Steinmetz Park.
The parade features bands, equestrian units, community members, service organizations, floats, drill teams, and  churches.

Parking is available in the surrounding community. Bring chairs/blankets to sit on the curb, umbrellas for shade, water and snacks. The parade lasts about 2 hours from start to finish.

    YMCA members pay $80, non-members pay $160.
     
    Parents can purchase a youth membership for any child under the age of 17 for only $20 a month, with no joining fees.

    Registration is now open for swim lessons, swim club, wet ball, and splash ball.

    Swim lessons are paid for the full month and the cost comes out to $5 per lesson for YMCA members, or $10 per lesson for non-members.

    Summer School: Our Lady of Miraculous Medal School, Montebello

    Kids can earn a free Book at B&N with Summer Reading!

    Kids can earn a free book from Barnes & Noble as a reward for Summer Reading!

    Kids read 8 books and record them in a Reading Journal. You can pick up a journal at Barnes & Noble or you can download one here. Take the completed journal to any Barnes & Noble store and kids can pick a free book from a list of books at 1st-6th grade reading level.

    Reading Journals need to be turned in by Monday, September 7, 2015. Barnes & Noble has stores in Glendale, Long Beach, and many other cities in the L.A. area.

    The Los Angeles County Library is hosting it's annual summer reading program at all of it's county library locations. 

    Kids, teens, & adults can sign up in person, online, or on a mobile version. Everyone participating can earn prizes & enter raffles for reading during the summer.

    Kids In-Store Summer Crafting: Michaels Stores

    Kids Summer Crafting Event at Michaels
     

    Crafting workshops for children 5 years and older are held Monday, Wednesday, and Friday from 10am-Noon at Michael's stores now through July 31.

     The crafts vary each day and every week focuses on a road trip destination. Each crafting session features an in-class project. Sessions cost $5, or pre-pay 3 sessions for $12. Space is limited, call a Michaels store or register online.

    There are Michaels stores in Whittier, Downey, Alhambra, & West Covina.

    Summer Games Bowling Pass: Beverly Lanes


    Families can bowl all summer long with shoe rental for one low price. Kids age 15 and under summer passes are $21.95, 16 and older summer passes are $26.95.

    The Summer Games bowling pass is good for three free games with shoe rental per day. Pass bowling hours are limited before 8pm on weekdays and before 4pm on weekends.

    Little Planet Helpers Kidgit Event: Shops at Montebello


    Los Angeles children and families are invited to go green with The Shops at Montebello during their Kidgits Club Little Planet Helpers event on Saturday, May 16, 2015 from 12:00 p.m. to 1:30 p.m. in Center Court.
     
    Children are invited to learn ways to keep the environment clean and healthy through fun activities including crafts, a face painter and balloon artist. Kidgits Club members will have the opportunity to decorate their own eco-friendly flower pot, with seeds to go along for planting at home.
     
    Participating organizations and retailers include the Montebello-Commerce YMCA, Hot Dog on a Stick, and JCPenney Portrait Studio. Build-a-Bear Workshop will have a special character appearance and storytelling, and the Montebello City Library will have story time as well.

    The Simon Kidgits Club is a fun and informative program that focuses on health, wellness, education, safety and entertainment for children ages 3-8. The Simon Kidgits Club has kept children and parents alike amused for over a decade with various events and activities while providing incentives for club members, such as special offers, rewards and games.
