The Simon Kidgits Club is for children up to 10 years old. For a $5 annual membership fee your kid will receive a t-shirt, badge with lanyard, a prize every time they visit the mall and more. Giveaway Policies: The Fine Print

At the end of the entry period all entries will be counted and assigned a number. A random number generator will chose the winning entry. Winners will be contacted via email. In some caes, winners will have 48 hours to verify their entry by replying to Montebello Mom with a mailing address if an address. Citadel Outlets will host the second annual “Clean up Commerce” event, in partnership with the City of Commerce.

Individuals, families, and organizations are welcome to volunteer. All volunteers must be pre-registered, register by sending an email to nicole@citadeloutlets.com or by calling 323-888-1724 no later than Friday, August 3.

All volunteers will receive complimentary breakfast and lunch catered by Ruby’s Diner, commemorative t-shirts and a gift bag at the event’s conclusion, at 1 p.m. In addition, volunteers will have an opportunity to enter a prize drawing and take part in a slide presentation dedicated to all sponsors and contributors on the Citadel Outlets digital billboards over the I-5 freeway.

Registration will begin promptly at 6 a.m., followed by trash pick-up; curb scrubbing and painting, debris removal, landscaping activities and asphalt repair work will be conducted on and around the Citadel Outlets shopping center on Hoefner, Smithway, Tubeway, Gaspar, Camfield and Telegraph roads.

In addition to the day’s cleaning efforts,eWaste Center, Inc. will collect old electronic devices in the Citadel Outlets parking lot on Telegraph Avenue from 7 a.m. to 12 p.m. Items accepted include televisions, printers, keyboards, cell phones and personal electronic devices. Two events are occurring this Saturday. I've been to a few Toys R Us events and they usually involve an activity and a small freebie giveaway. The kids always enjoy themselves and leave with a free small gift or coupon, which I love.

I picked up the flyer with the information at the Montebello Toys R Us location, usually these events occur at all large Toys R Us locations, not outlets.

New Book Store in Montebello! Dollar Book Fair @ Shops at Montebello

Montebello once again has a book store!

The Dollar Book Fair sells used books, comic books, movies, and children's books at the bargain price of $2 or less.

Paperbacks and children's books are $1 and hardback books are $2. 

The stores offers a selection of comic books and movies and music.

A children's story time is held on Wednesdays at 6pm.

If you want to save some money and clean out your house at the same time Dollar Book Fair offers a trade-in program. For every 5 books donated to the store a $1 credit is given to use toward any purchase.

The Dollar Book Fair can be found at the Shops at Montebello Mall on the lower level next to JCPenney.

New Toy Loan Program: Pio Pico Park, Pico Rivera

The Los Angeles County Department of Social Services is expanding it's Toy Loan program to Pio Pico Playground in Pico Rivera.

Children ages 3 and up can visit the Toy Loan center on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays from 2-3pm. Toys can be checked out for one week.

The Grand Opening celebration is scheduled for Wednesday, June 27 at 1pm, at Pio Pico Playground, 4211 Columbia Street, Pico Rivera.

Celebrate "Shoe Week" at the Shops at Montebello

This week in May is "National Shoe Week!" To celebrate, the Shops at Montebello gave this blogger a $50 Visa Gift Card to see what I can find. Since summer weather in Los Angeles begins in May, my girls needed sandals. This past weekend I went shopping. Here are kid shoe bargains that I found at the Shops at Montebello Mall. Enjoy!

Since August 2011 when light up Sketchers were on sale for $10 a pair I make a point to check in with Dolores, the manager at  Kids Footlocker to see if they have any special sales on shoes.
These infant/toddler sized Twinkle Toes were only $5!

Another deal at Kids Footlocker, flip flops in toddler size for $10. I really like these flip flops because the strap is really soft plastic; pliable enough that it won't cause blisters if worn for a long period of time. We cut off the elastic straps since my daughter is an expert in flip flop walking.

Next to the play area is Brooks Shoes for Kids. This store carries not only shoes, but backpacks, lunchboxes, dance gear, and hair bows. My daughter fell in love with these sandals.
I really like the Stride Rite brand and for the sale price of $38.40, it's a good buy.

 My youngest loves the bling! Luckily these fit her perfectly!
They were on the Brooks Shoes for Kids center clearance rack for $16.80.

They carry from infant to youth size 6. My middle school students cannot get enough of them.

The Disney Store is currently running a 40% off sale on all swimwear and swim accessories.
These cute flip flops are $3.99 and are available from size 7/8 -2/3.

I recently came across a Payless Shoe Store online coupon code for $5 off any purchase. I chose the ship-to-store option and shipping was free! These sandals are usually $10, but with the coupon code I only paid $5 and picked them up at the mall.

My girls are now all set for the summer weather. They cannot wait until I bring out the box of their summer dresses and inflate the pool in the backyard. A special thanks to the Shops at Montebello Mall for sponsoring this summer sandal shopping trip and Happy National Shoe Week!

Free Makeup!!! The good stuff from department stores!

I was telling one of my students last week that I try never to pay full retail price for anything. I can pretty much manage a way to get a discount on everything I buy and sometimes I can get things for free.

One student, suspicious of my abilities, asked, "What about makeup? Not like Wal-mart makeup, but good makeup, from the mall?" I then told her about my recent trip to the mall where I came out with free makeup without making a single purchase. Here is how I did it...

The ad at the right came in my mail, it's for a free 10-day sample of Lancome's new foundation.

Around the same time I found an Estee Lauder advertisement in a magazine. It included a tear out postcard that was good for a 10-day sample of foundation.

I brought both cards into Macy's, stopped at the Lancome and Estee Lauder counters and came home with  two sample containers. The first one lasted me almost three weeks.

If I'm in need of new makeup I usually wait to make my purchase until there is a free gift offer. I'm not a loyal follower of any particular brand of makeup, so I'll buy from any brand offering a free gift with purchase offer.

Lancome, Clinique, Estee Lauder often host Free Gift with Purchase events a few times a year. All have a minimum purchase requirement and most allow a choice of free items. These events are a great time to stock up on the basics such as mascara and moisturizer.

Sephora inside JCPenney has a loyalty club, The Beauty Insider, that offers rewards and coupons.

I recently received a mailer that offers a free compact mirror for signing up. A perk of the club is a free duo of lipstick during the member's birthday month, and the ability to accumulate points with every purchase.

Sephora is also generous with samples.  If you would like to try a product but aren't ready to make a commitment, the consultants will happily fill a sample jar for you.

Summer School & Classes

Our Lady of Miraculous Medal in Montebello is offering a summer enrichment program for K-8 grades, the program features language arts, mathematics and Spanish.  Monday, June 25th - Thursday July 19th, 8:30-11:45am, $225.

St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic School in Monterey Park is offering summer school from June 20 - July 20 for students in Kindergarten through 8th grade from 8am - Noon. The cost is $280. Students are taught language arts, reading review, basic mathematics and a choice of electives. No school on Fridays.

St. Benedict Catholic School in Montebello is offering summer school from June 25 - July 26, Monday - Thursday for students in 1st through 8th grade from 8am-1pm. The cost is $185 per student, students bring their lunch.

Cerrritos College offers a summer program for kids. Sign up your child for classes during the day and schedule swim time and supervised lunch.

Rio Hondo College offers classes for children throughout the year.

East L.A. College offers weekend classes for children throughout the year.

Summer Day Camps

The Montebello-Commerce YMCA offers a weekly day camp for grades 1-5. Cost is $150 a week + a $25 registration fee. Each week the group goes on a field trip to match the theme of the week. Field Trips include: Sparks Basketball game, California Science Center, Huntington Beach, Travel Town, LA Zoo, Grammy Museum, and Nickel Nickel.

The City of Montebello offers a weekly summer day camp for ages 5-12. Cost is $84 a week, 6:30am - 6: 30pm.

The city of Pico Rivera offers a weekly day camp for from completed Kindergarten- completed 8th grade. Total cost is $94 a week, 8am - 5pm.

The City of Montery Park offers a weekly day camp for ages 5-13. Cost is $131 a week, 7am - 6:30pm.
